Bringin’ Back the Old School!

I don’t even like Jon Jones, but I still want a pair of these. They combine the retro old school “Pump” with a futuristic look.

You have to be a certain age to understand the cultural significance that was once attached to “the Pump.” Now that Reebok has an exclusive contract with the UFC, we’re gonna be bringin’ back the old school cool of a once faded brand.

I guess I’m not of the right certain age because I can’t remember when “the pump” was either old school or new school cool. Indeed, I’ve never heard of “the pump” until just now.

Kirt, I said you have to be a certain age. No offense, but I think you are older than that certain age.

No doubt. What exactly is the right certain age for this one? I do pay a fair amount of attention to athletic shoes since I wear them the vast majority of the time and have done so all my adult life.

I had a 1988 girlfriend that obsessed over her Reeboks?……….Worst pair of athletic shoe I ever owned was a high end pair of Nike Jordan’s…………Then I discovered New Balance, and have consistently bought the same model three times so far…………..NB rules!

The Pump was introduced in 1989, so I guess you would of had to have been in your teens or early 20’s then for them to culturally “imprint” on you.

I was 46 in 1989 so no imprint. I don’t think I missed anything. I wore New Balance for several years, but I’ve since switched to Brooks, which I like even better.

I never noticed pumps making a difference. My problem was always shoes breaking on me. I’d get a hole in the front, then my toe would drag out the bottom. Ouch.

Relatedly, my non-pump air-filled shoes would always get a puncture.

    I use New Balance currently.
