Mel Gibson’s ‘Hacksaw Ridge’ Movie

Mel Gibson’s latest movie, “Hacksaw Ridge”, premiered on the 4th. It’s apparently about Desmond Thomas Doss: A pacifist serving as a medic in WWII, on the front lines. And it’s based on a true story.

Doss has a wikipedia article:

“He was a Corporal (Private First Class at the time of his Medal of Honor heroics) in the U.S. Army assigned to the Medical Detachment, 307th Infantry, 77th Infantry Division.”

This latest film fits neatly into a Gibson trilogy: Passion, Apocalypto, Hacksaw. All three share deeply Christian themes.

I’m a big fan of Mel Gibson’s work on both sides of the camera. I’ve seen the trailer for Hacksaw Ridge and it really looks good. I think the commercial release is scheduled for November 4. I read one review which stated that it received a ten minute standing ovation at the Venice film festival, which the reviewer said is very unusual for that particular festival. He also said that there was already “Oscar buzz”. Maybe the film will be nominated but I’d be very pleasantly surprised if Gibson was voted another Oscar. One of my sons-in-law is a member of the Academy. He has produced and written some Christian themed works himself. I haven’t had the opportunity yet to ask him about Hacksaw Ridge.
