I see a lot of people are attributing Ronda Rousey’s loss to the karma associated with her recent endorsement of Bernie Sanders, but this is not the case. It’s really karma for her accepting the Patrick Swayze role in the remake of Road House (something I vehemently denounced here at CHT), the cosmic implications of which are much more significant. That kick to the head was the cosmos’ way of saying “You ain’t no James Dalton, so stop frontin’.”

However, A multi millionare man once told me that a “Man of experience will never be at the mercy of a man with a theory?”………………………..Duh?
Rousey had 13 fights?……………………….13?………….Duh?…………Going up against a fighter that had about 44, had been the boxing champion, had been the kick boxing champion, and had been encouraged to join MMA?
Rousey was just as good as “Gentleman Jerry Cooney” before his sad awakening.
Too soon, too quick, and the promoters got rich………………………..Rousey will fade, and the sport will continue with real athletes. (On her way out, Sylvester Stalone will help her make some money.)

I didn’t predict that Holm would win because I figured Rousey would attempt to take her down and submit her, but I did think Holm had a decent chance of winning because she had the skill set and resume to do it. In hindsight, I think Rousey was the victim of her own press. She really thought she could just press forward aggressively and out strike Holm. That was a really dumb plan. Also, did she train how to fight a southpaw? If they fight again, Rousey should spend the whole fight shooting on her, instead of offering up her face as a punching bag.

You can count me among those who was cheering for Holly and thought she had a puncher’s chance, but figured Ronda would probably win. Things look much different in hindsight. The reaction at the sports bar where I watched the fight was electrifying. Everyone knew they were watching history being made.
You can say that Roadhouse had something to do with it (even though it is far from beginning filming) if you take Roadhouse as a stand-in for Ronda’s involvement with Hollywood. This was a major distraction for her and may become a bigger one. Other negatives were her new boyfriend Travis Browne (not yet divorced from his current estranged wife), the public quarrel between her mother and her trainer, said trainer’s bankruptcy (not to mention mediocre talents), and worst of all Ronda’s hubristic arrogance, believing her own hype.
Holly’s experience and background have been pointed out by both Roho and Red. Add to that her greater physical gifts (a rangy ectomorphic physique which makes her hard to take down), the fact that she has lived and trained at endurance building high altitude all her life, and the fact that she has, in Greg Jackson and Mike Winkeljohn, two of the canniest trainers in the game. Wink claims they even had Holly hold back in her first two UFC fights so that Ronda would underestimate her.
BTW, The Bloody Elbow has a virtually blow-by-blow analysis of the fight which outlines Holly’s strategy. This casts doubt on whether Ronda’s judo, already world class, will ever be good enough to beat Holly’s striking.
BTW, if we’re on the subject of bad movies, Fight Valley, a likely straight-to-video Golden Turkey starring, Holly, Miesha Tate, and Chris “Cyborg” Justino will be released next year. Hopefully, it will be so bad it’s good and it will almost certainly be better than either Roadhouse.
